"Domemim" (Stills)
Still: quiet, sleepy, discontinued, silent; contrast to the living and the growing, to the talking and the noisy.
The exhibition consisted of two groups of stills which I created during the years 2000-2002 at my studio in Jerusalem. The first group contains pencil and charcoal drawings of objects that were placed on a windowsill in the studio. These objects (towel, broom, potatoes, etc.) hardly reveal any details about their owner’s identity, and tell a story of basic existence that expresses the beauty and forlornness of the studio’s environment. The second group consists of drawings (pencil, charcoal, ink) and paintings (oil pastels, water colours, ink) of leaves. These leaves remained still in my studio for a long time, acting as a catalyst for a journey to far away destinations, where they became part woodland, part abstract textures.
