Song of Time Passing
Song of Time Passing is an anthology of Isaac Shalev’s poems, edited by his three children (of which I am one), and published in 2009, seventeen years after his death. His varied poetry consists of love poems to his city, Jerusalem, to Israel’s nature and landscape, to my late mother, as well as of political poems and poems that mourn his sister, who died in her childhood. As if to mirror this variety, I used different mediums to illustrate the book: drawings in either pen, pencil, ink, or pastels, and etchings. Making these illustrations – Jerusalem’s landscapes, my mother and her dresses, my father as a young boy with his family – was, for me, an emotional journey.
